E-menu

The E-menu app: a phone menu guests open with no account, with sections, search, photos, prices and allergens, and a page where you mark what is sold out.

The E-menu app, version 1.0.0, is a menu for a phone. A guest opens a link or scans a code, with no account, and reads your sections, photos and prices, with a page for each item that says what is in it. It opens on its Menu page.

What it installs

NameKindWhat it holds
CategoriesTableYour sections: Name and Shown (a Checkbox, ticked unless you untick it).
ItemsTableName, Description, Photo (an Attachment), Price (in your workspace's currency), Position, Category (a Linked record to Categories), Dietary · Dietă, Contains · Conține and May contain · Poate conține (Multiple select fields), and Availability: Available · Disponibil, Sold out · Epuizat or Hidden · Ascuns. On the menu, Status, Allergy note and Notă alergii are worked out. Shown as Cards.
MenuPageWhat your guests read: items by section, with a search by name or description and a filter by Dietary. A sold-out item stays on it and says so.
Manage menuPageWhat needs a look, and every item with a button to mark it sold out or available.
Add an itemFormA new item, in the order you have the answers.

Both pages and the form are made as drafts. It makes no roles.

Sample rows

Include sample rows writes 5 sections and 15 items with photos, named in Romanian and English, such as Ciorbă de legume · Vegetable soup. One item is sold out, one is hidden and two have no allergens entered, so you see what each looks like.

Put in your own menu

  1. Open Categories under Data and add your sections, in the order guests should read them.
  2. Open Manage menu in Pages and choose Add an item, which works with nothing published. Fill in Name, Section and Price, then what you have of the rest, and choose Add to the menu.
  3. For Photo, upload a picture from your phone or computer: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP or HEIC, up to 10 MB. It is stored with the item, so it needs no web address.
  4. Choose Clear sample rows on either table. A sample item you changed stays, and so does a sample section your items use. See Change an app after installing it.

To replace an item later, open Items under Data and tap it. Inside a section, items read by Position, lowest first, and one with no Position comes last; the form does not ask for it. Give every item its own name: its page is found by name, and two with the same name cannot open.

Publish the menu

  1. Open Menu in Pages and choose Publish. Under Who can open it, choose Public or Anyone with the private link. Either needs guest access on for the workspace.
  2. Choose Copy link to send it, or QR code beside it to download a code or print a sheet, twelve to an A4 page. A printed code goes on opening the menu as you change it. See Publish a page.

Manage menu

  • Needs a look lists every item with no photo, marked sold out, or with no allergens entered.
  • All items lists every item by section, hidden ones too. An available item has a Sold out button and a sold-out item an Available button. One tap changes it on the menu too, and both lists follow. A hidden item has neither.

Those buttons write to your table, so anyone who can open Manage menu can press them. Publish Menu to your guests first, then Manage menu to Workspace members, never to the public or a private link. Published the other way round, Menu is listed under Goes with it and would go out to those members only.

Allergens

Contains and May contain offer the fourteen allergens of EU Regulation 1169/2011. Dietary offers Vegetarian, Vegan, Pescatarian, Spicy and Alcohol. A blank says "not provided", never that an item is free of anything:

  • An item with nothing in either list says on its page Not provided for this item. Ask our staff before you order. One with something in either says If you have an allergy, ask our staff before you order.
  • The menu's footer says the information can change, and that no item is promised free of any allergen.
  • Guests can filter by Dietary and not by an allergen, so nobody can ask for the items without gluten and get the ones nobody filled in.

The lists say what you entered. Sterodata cannot check them against a recipe, so keep them right as your recipes change.

Take an item or a section off

  • One item: in Items, set Availability to Hidden · Ascuns. It leaves the menu and its page no longer opens.
  • A whole section: in Categories, untick Shown. The section and all its items leave the menu at once, and each item keeps its own Availability. Tick it again and they come back.

Languages

The pages and the form come in English and Romanian. A workspace whose document language is Romanian gets them in Romanian, headed Meniu and with the buttons reading Epuizat and Disponibil; any other gets English, and can switch before installing (see Browse and install an app). Their names stay Menu, Manage menu and Add an item.

A page has one language and guests do not switch it. A table's words have one language only, so what guests read from your tables says both, such as Contains · Conține. Write your sections and items the same way, such as Ciorbe · Soups: the search finds either.

What it does not do yet

  • No ordering. Guests read the menu. They cannot order or pay from it.
  • Sections read in the order they were added to Categories. You cannot pick another order yet.
  • No availability by the hour. Nothing comes and goes by itself: someone unticks Shown and ticks it again.
  • A save is live. Publishing holds back changes to the page, not to its rows. A price or a name you save is on the published menu at once, with no draft to check first.

Everything here is yours to change: see Change an app after installing it.
