Getting started
What Sterodata is, the parts a workspace is made of, and how they fit together.
Sterodata is a web app, at https://app.sterodata.com, where a business keeps its records in linked tables and builds what it runs on top of them: dashboards, price lists, order forms, statements. You build by clicking, by installing a ready-made app, or by asking an AI assistant you have connected.
The parts
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Workspace | Your business's own space, at its own address, such as app.sterodata.com/acme-sales. Everything below lives in a workspace, and you invite your team into it. |
| Database | Where tables live. Every workspace has a built-in database. You can also connect a PostgreSQL or MySQL database you already run, which Sterodata reads live. |
| Table | A list of records with fields, like a spreadsheet tab where each column has a type: text, numbers, money, dates, choices, people, files, or links to records in another table. |
| View | One table filtered, sorted and shaped, or several tables stacked into one. It shows the table's own records; nothing is copied. |
| Summary | A table grouped and totalled, for example sales by region and by quarter. |
| Page | A dashboard of numbers, charts, lists and filters, built on your tables and views. |
| Form | A page people fill in, which writes records into your tables: an order, a request, a registration. |
| Role | A named set of permissions given to members. A member sees and changes what their roles and shares allow, and nothing else. |
| App | A ready-made set of tables, views, pages, forms and roles for one job, installed from the app gallery. Once installed, it is yours to change. |
| Assistant | ChatGPT, Claude or Codex, connected to Sterodata. It works as you, with your permissions. |
How they fit
Records go into tables. Views and summaries read those tables and show them another way. Pages read tables and views; forms write into tables. Publishing a page or a form decides who can open it: the public, anyone with a private link, or members you choose. Inside the workspace, roles decide what each member can see and change. Every record shows who created it and who changed it last.
Take a wholesaler. Products, Clients and Offers are three linked tables. A Catalogue view shows only the products in stock. A Price list page shows them to customers as photo cards, with an order form that writes each order into Offers. A summary adds up every offer. That is the Product catalogue and offers app, which builds all of it in one step: see Apps.
