Fruit trial

The Fruit trial app: varieties, rootstocks and treatments combined into plots, the measurements taken on each plot, and yield per plot.

The Fruit trial app, version 2.0.0, is for an orchard field trial: the varieties and rootstocks under test, the treatments applied, the plots those three combine into, and the measurements taken on each plot. The plot is the unit of the experiment. Its variety, rootstock and treatment are set once on the plot, never retyped on each measurement, so a measurement cannot carry the wrong variety. Yield per tree and the sugar to acid ratio are worked out from the measurements, never typed. It opens on Plots.

VarietiesTableName, Species, Origin and Notes.
RootstocksTableName, Vigour and Notes.
TreatmentsTableName, Description and Applied From.
PlotsTableCode, Block, Variety, Rootstock and Treatment (Linked records to the three tables above), Planted, Trees and Area sqm.
MeasurementsTablePlot (a Linked record showing the plot's code, block, variety, rootstock and treatment), Date, Season, Trees Harvested, Yield kg, Fruit Count, Mean Fruit Mass g, Firmness kgf, Soluble Solids Brix, Titratable Acidity, Observer (a User field) and Notes. Two fields are worked out: Yield per Tree, Yield kg divided by Trees Harvested, and Sugar Acid Ratio, Soluble Solids Brix divided by Titratable Acidity.
Harvest RecordsViewThe measurements with a yield above 0, newest first. Shown as a List, with the plot, season, date, yield, trees harvested and yield per tree.
Yield by PlotSummaryPer plot: Total Yield kg, Mean Yield per Tree and Mean Sugar Acid Ratio, the highest yield first.

It makes no pages, no forms and no roles.

Sample rows

With Include sample rows on, it writes an apple trial: 6 varieties (among them Jonagold, Idared and Florina), 4 rootstocks (M9, M26, MM106 and M111), 3 treatments, 12 plots, P-01 to P-12, in three blocks, and 24 measurements from September 2026. Descriptive values are in Romanian.

Use it

  1. Enter the trial's varieties, rootstocks and treatments.
  2. Add one row to Plots per plot, with its code and block, and choose its variety, rootstock and treatment.
  3. Record each measurement in Measurements against its plot, with the date, the season and the observer. Yield per Tree and Sugar Acid Ratio fill in.
  4. Follow the harvest in Harvest Records, and compare plots in Yield by Plot.
  5. For statistics, export Measurements as a CSV or Excel file and analyse it in R, SPSS or Excel (see Tables).

There are no statistics in the app: no analysis of variance, no regression. Yield by Plot totals per plot only. Comparing varieties or treatments means combining plots, which is analysis to run on the exported data, not a number to read off the summary; the note under Yield by Plot says so.

Everything here is yours to change: see Change an app after installing it.
