Documentation Apps

Browse and install an app

Find an app in the gallery, see what it will create and how it looks with sample rows, and install it.

Open the gallery

Open the workspace menu, at the left of the top bar, and choose Apps. The menu also says how many apps are installed here. A new workspace with no tables yet lists apps on its first screen too, and See all 4 apps opens the gallery.

The gallery shows each app as a card. All lists every app; Installed lists those in this workspace. A card shows:

  • a picture of where the app opens, drawn with its sample rows;
  • its name and version, and a tag when it is Installed, has an Update available, or Can't install here;
  • one line on what it is for;
  • what it adds, counted by kind: 1 page, 1 form, 4 tables, 2 views, 1 role.

Choose a card to open the app's page. Opening it never installs anything.

Look before you install

  • This will create lists what the app makes, by kind and by name. Opens first marks the page or table you land on after installing.
  • The preview, beside it on a computer, shows the app filled with the sample rows it would write. Its tabs show where it opens first, then each page and form, then its main table; for an app with no pages, each of its tables. On a page, Desktop and Phone switch the width. Views are not drawn in the preview. On a phone, the preview is a picture at the top of the app's page.
  • About is the app's full description; More shows all of it.

Install it

  1. Leave Include sample rows on to fill the tables with sample rows, or switch it off to start with empty tables. Under it, the app says what the sample is, for example "12 products, 3 clients, 3 offers".
  2. Check Language. It shows the language the app's pages and forms will be written in: your workspace's document language. If the app also comes in another language, the row says so.
  3. Choose Install.

Sterodata makes everything, then takes you where the app opens: its main page, shown as your customers will see it, or its main table in Data. A message says the app is installed, and which sample rows came with it. Its What was added takes you back to the app's page.

Include sample rows is offered only while none of the app's tables and views is in the workspace yet. It is on until you switch it off.

Install it in another language

When the app's pages come in a language other than your workspace's, the Language row reads This app also comes in that language. A workspace admin can choose Switch this workspace, then Install, and the pages are written in it. Anyone else is told a workspace admin can switch it.

Switch this workspace changes the document language of the whole workspace, at once: every page, form and shared link reads in it, numbers and dates included. Only the app's pages are translated. Its table and field names stay as the app names them.

After installing

The app's page shows the version and when it was installed. In this workspace lists what the app made, under the names those things have now, with each page's state: Draft, Published or Paused. Open app takes you where the app opens; if you renamed that page or table it follows the new name, and if you removed it, it opens the app's first page still here, or else its first table.

Next: publish the app's pages when they are ready (see Pages), clear the sample rows once your own are in (see Change an app after installing it), and give people its roles (see Access).

If Install is not available, the app's page says why, above it. See When an app can't be installed here.
