Exchange rates — Sterodata docs

Choose where the workspace's currency conversions take their rates from: the National Bank of Romania, the European Central Bank, or a table of rates you keep yourself.

When a currency field converts amounts into another currency (see Fields), it uses the workspace's exchange rates. A business keeps its books against one source, so the source is set once for the whole workspace.

Choose the source

Open Settings, General.
In Exchange rates, pick one of the three sources.

Source	The rates
BNR	The National Bank of Romania's: lei for 1 unit of each currency.
ECB	The European Central Bank's: units of each currency for 1 euro.
Custom	Rates you enter yourself, in a table of the workspace.

A new workspace starts with BNR if its locale is Română (România) and with ECB otherwise. After that it changes only when you change it here, never with the locale.

BNR and ECB

Both are built in: every date each bank has published, refreshed every hour. You set up nothing, and no table appears in your workspace. Under the choice, the row says up to which date the rates are in and how many currencies they cover.

Custom

Sterodata makes a table named Exchange rates (Cursuri de schimb in a Romanian workspace) when the workspace first needs it. It has a Date, a Currency and a rate named after your home currency, such as USD for 1 unit. You fill it: type the rates, import them or connect a source (see Integrations), with one row per date and currency. The row in Settings names the table.

While the workspace converts at it, the table's columns cannot be deleted or change type. If you move to BNR or ECB later, the table stays as it is, and moving back reads it again.

What a change does

Amounts are converted when they are read, so a new source shows in every converted amount the next time it is read. Nothing is stored at the old rates.

While a period is locked in a workspace that converts amounts, the source cannot be changed, because every converted amount of that period would change. Reopen the period first.

Only a workspace admin can change where exchange rates come from.
