Documentation Security and your data
Deleting data
What happens when you delete records, fields, tables or a whole workspace: how long each can be put back, and when it is destroyed.
Most deletes in Sterodata can be put back for a while. What is deleted for good is then destroyed by a job that runs every night.
| You delete | Where it goes | How to put it back |
|---|---|---|
| Records | Kept for 30 days, then destroyed. | Undo in the message that appears, for about 12 seconds. |
| A field, with its values | The database's Trash, for 30 days. | Restore in the Trash. |
| A table, with its records | The database's Trash, for 30 days. | Restore in the Trash. |
| A workspace | The workspaces Trash, for 30 days. | Restore in the Trash on your workspaces list. |
The date something is deleted for good is fixed on the day it is deleted, and each entry in a trash shows it. A job that runs every night at 03:30 UTC then destroys everything whose date has passed. See Who changed what for the database's Trash and Delete a workspace for the workspaces Trash.
Records are kept for 30 days after a delete, but the app can put them back only through Undo, straight after the delete.
Deleting a workspace for good
From the workspaces Trash, Delete forever destroys a workspace at once, after you type its name. When a workspace is destroyed, either way, these go with it:
- its tables, fields, records, views, pages and forms, with every answer sent to its forms;
- its members, roles, grants, invitations and share links;
- the database file holding its records;
- its attached and uploaded files in Amazon S3;
- the stored passwords and keys of its connections, and its schedules.
The people in it keep their Sterodata accounts. A connected PostgreSQL or MySQL database is not touched: Sterodata only read it.
Backups
Backups are not edited when you delete. Data destroyed in the app stays in the backups taken before, until they expire: 7 days for workspace details and 35 days for records (see Backups). Attached files are not in any backup, so a destroyed file is gone at once.
Your account
There is no way in the app to delete your Sterodata account. How Sterodata handles your personal data is set out in the privacy policy.
