Lists
The List element: a table, a list or cards of records, which fields they show, how they open, and what readers may do with them.
A List shows the records of a table or view on a page: a catalogue of products as photo cards, a price list as rows, open orders as a table. It is the element most pages are built around.
Add one with Add element and List, then pick its Source. The List fills itself in from the table's fields, so it already works before you choose anything: a title, a photo if the table has one, a price if it has an amount. Everything below is on the List's Data tab.
How it is drawn
- Title: optional.
- Rows are called: what one record is called and what several are, such as "product" and "products". The List uses the words in its search box ("Search 214 products"). Left empty, it uses the table's name.
- Says how many: whether the List shows how many records it holds: To the team (members only, the default), To everyone, or Never.
- Show as: Table, List or Cards.
- Columns: which fields the List reads, "7 of 12 columns". A published page sends its readers these fields and no others.
- Totals: adds up columns over every record the List reads. Pick which under of; only an amount or a plain number adds up. A Table shows a totals row; a List or Cards show the sums beside the count and on each group's heading.
- Rows per page, for a Table: 5, 10, 25 or 50. A List and Cards load 50 records at a time as the reader scrolls.
For a List or Cards, Each row shows or Each card shows sets what a record looks like:
- Photo: an attachment, a web address or a text field holding one.
- Card title or Row title: one or more fields, in the order you drag them.
- Under the title: the smaller line beneath it.
- Price or Also shows at the foot of a card, or On the right · up to 3 on a row.
Rows and order
- Shows only: a condition on the records the List shows, such as "In stock is checked". Readers never see the condition and cannot widen past it. To show each member only their own records, put a person field "is Me" here; Me is whoever opened the page, so this needs a page published to workspace members.
- Opens grouped by: up to two levels, with + Add subgroup for the second. A date can be grouped by a part of it. Each group gets a heading with its count and a "See all" that narrows the List to it.
- Opens sorted by: As the table has them, or one field A to Z or Z to A.
- Categories from: a text or choice field whose values become chips above the records, with their counts, for readers to tap. A phone shows no chips.
What readers can do
Under Viewers can, tick each tool readers get. A tool that takes fields offers them in the dropdown beside it, such as "Search in SKU, Name":
| Tool | What the reader can do |
|---|---|
| Search | Type words, matched in the text, e-mail, phone, web address and choice fields you pick. |
| Filter | Narrow the records by the fields you pick. |
| Sort | Order the records by the fields you pick. |
| Group | Group the records by the fields you pick. |
| Hide fields | Hide columns for themselves. Table only. |
| Export (CSV or Excel) | Download what the List shows. Table only. |
A tool reaches only the List's own columns. A tool that none of the columns can serve cannot be ticked, and says why. The server refuses anything outside what you ticked, whatever a reader's browser sends.
Clicking a card (or Clicking a row) is Opens its page or Does nothing. Opening a record is explained in Record pages.
When the page has a filter bar, On the page sets whether the List follows it: see Filters and chart clicks.
Where readers are, kept in the address
What a reader typed in the search, the chip they picked, the group they opened and the record they have open are kept in the page's address. Back, a refresh, or the link forwarded to a colleague reopens the same view.
Changing Show as from a Table to a List or Cards drops Hide fields and Export (CSV or Excel), since only a Table has columns to hide or download.
