What an assistant cannot do
What a connected assistant cannot do in Sterodata, and where each of those things is done instead.
An assistant has no tools for some of what the app does. Each of these is done in the app, by someone with the right to do it.
| It cannot | What to do instead |
|---|---|
| Query the tables of a connected PostgreSQL or MySQL database | It can describe those tables, build a dashboard on them and read the figures the dashboard shows under any filter. A question the dashboard does not answer is for the app's tables. |
| Make a summary | Make it in the app. The assistant can read, change and delete one that exists. |
| Connect a database or an API, or save a credential | See Integrations. |
| Make, change or run an automation, or add buttons to a table | See Automations. |
| Publish a page to chosen roles or people | It publishes to everyone in the workspace, to a private link or to the public. To narrow a page to a role, choose the role in the page's Publish settings in the app. See Pages. |
| Change who can reach what | Inviting members, roles, and sharing tables and views are done in the app. See Access. |
| Delete a table that holds rows | Delete it in the app, where it goes to the trash and can be restored. |
| Read inside attached files | It sees each file's name, type and size, not its contents. |
| Export a table to a CSV or Excel file | Export it from the table in the app. |
| Combine several tables in one query | It reads one table at a time, following links to the records they point at, and can ask each table in turn. |
| Change rows that are kept elsewhere | Rows of a connected database are read-only, and rows a connector keeps in sync are changed at their source. Your own columns on a synced table can be changed. |
| Install an app into a database other than the built-in one | Apps install into the workspace's built-in database. |
| Reach a workspace you are not a member of | Ask its admin to invite you. The assistant reaches it once you are a member. |
None of these is a setting you can turn on: the tools for them do not exist. Everything else an assistant does is listed in What an assistant can do.
