How to run sales commission without disputes
Most commission disputes are about history: a rate changed, and somebody’s July suddenly looks different. Set up this way, that cannot happen.
Step 1. Install the Commission plan app
Install it from the apps gallery, or ask your assistant to install it. It brings Participants, Transactions, a Statement, and the payee views My Lines and My Statement.
Step 2. Add your payees
For each payee, enter a quota and a commission rate in Participants.
Step 3. Credit transactions as they close
Each transaction has a date, a customer, a product, an amount and the payee it is credited to. When a line is credited, the payee’s current rate and quota are copied onto it, and its commission is worked out from that copy.
Step 4. Read the statement
The Statement adds up sales, quota and commission per payee. Commission is rounded to the cent on each line, and the statement says so, so its totals always match what is paid.
Step 5. Invite payees into the Payee role
A payee signs in and sees two things: their own credited lines and their own statement. They see no one else’s, and nothing else in the workspace.
Step 6. Change a rate when terms change
Update the payee’s rate in Participants. Only lines credited from then on use it, so July and August keep the rate they were credited at.
Step 7. Explain any number
Marco’s rate went up to 6% on 1 September. Did that change what we owe him for July and August?
Your assistant queries the credited lines, grouped by rate, and answers from them. You can read the query it ran.
Sterodata is where a business keeps its records, orders and numbers, and sees who can reach each one and who changed it. Build it with your assistant, from a ready-made app, or by clicking.
