How to connect ChatGPT or Claude to your business data

An assistant runs a query in a workspace, as the person who connected it.

Sterodata is an MCP server, so any assistant that supports custom connectors can work in your workspace: ChatGPT, Claude and Codex today. Connecting takes a minute.

Step 1. Have a workspace

Sign up at app.sterodata.com and create a workspace, or use one you are already a member of. The assistant will only ever see the workspaces you can see.

Step 2. Add the connector

In your assistant’s settings, add a custom connector with this address:

https://api.sterodata.com/mcp

There is no API key to create or paste.

Step 3. Sign in and allow

The assistant sends you to Sterodata. Sign in with your own account and you are asked one question:

Allow ChatGPT to use Sterodata? ChatGPT will act as you@yourcompany.com: it can do what you can do in your workspaces — read and change data, create tables and pages, and publish links. You can disconnect it at any time.

Choose Allow, and you are sent back to the assistant.

Step 4. Ask a first question

Start with something it can only answer from your data:

Which tables are in my workspace, and what is in each one?

Then a real question, such as “Which invoices are more than 30 days overdue?”. The answer comes from a read-only query, and you can read the query in the assistant’s tool call.

Step 5. Build something

Create a Vendors table with name, contact e-mail and category, and a Contracts table linked to it with service, value per year and renewal date.

Open the app and the new tables are there, ready to edit by clicking.

Step 6. Disconnect whenever you like

Your account menu lists Connected assistants, with when each was last used. Choose Disconnect, and its next request is refused.

What it can and cannot do

  • It works as you, through the same checks as a click in the app. If you can only view a table, so can your assistant.
  • It cannot reach a workspace you are not a member of.
  • What it changes is recorded under your name.
  • The tokens it holds are short-lived, and we keep only a hash of them.

Sterodata is where a business keeps its records, orders and numbers, and sees who can reach each one and who changed it. Build it with your assistant, from a ready-made app, or by clicking.
